Shiprock at Dusk, 2024
acrylic
8 x 12.75 ft
Shiprock is a monadnock, an isolated hill or small mountain that rises abruptly from a flat or gently sloping plain, rising up nearly 1,583 feet (482 m) above the high desert plain of the Navajo Nation in San Juan County, NM. It is known to the Diné (Navajo) people as Tsé Bít'á'í, "the rock with wings", in the language of Diné Bizáád, and holds cultural significance. At sunset, the rock face reflects a golden, fiery light just before succumbing to total darkness of night.
